Public Opinion on Key State Issues
For Governor and Legislature to Address
Analysis by Floyd Ciruli
Question: What would you say is the top issue you would like the governor and state legislature to deal with in Colorado?
Released August 15, 2003
A newly conducted Ciruli Associates poll (July 2003) shows the weak economy is now the top concern that Colorado voters (25%) want the governor and legislature to deal with. In an earlier March 2003 poll, education and the drought were tied (both 17%) as the top issues among Colorado voters. Education continues its perennial high rating (17%), but the wet weather has lowered drought among top voter concerns (9%). And the state budget crisis, which was mentioned by less than 1 percent of voters in October 2002, once again is listed by 8 percent of voters as a top concern (same as March 2003).
Health care (4%) is also an issue that Colorado voters want the governor and legislature to deal with. Growth and transportation, top issues throughout the 1990s, both have six percent in the survey (not shown on chart).
- The public priority question is part of regular Ciruli Associates reports on top issues. The latest poll was conducted by Ciruli Associates from July 14 to July 22, 2003 with 800 registered voters (±3.4 percentage points).
